Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

Asked May 7, 2026 by a contractor in Electrical (Handyman Mod)

One breaker trips repeatedly. Is this something I can troubleshoot or a sign of a bigger problem?

A breaker trips to protect you, so treat it seriously. Common causes: too many devices on one circuit (overload), a short circuit, or a ground fault. Try moving some devices to another circuit; if it trips with little load, or trips immediately when reset, stop and call an electrician. Repeated tripping can signal faulty wiring or a failing breaker — not something to keep resetting.
