    The answer is not as easy as just picking a product. The answer depends on the use, look wanted and condition of the substrate. VCT is inexpensive, comes in lots of colors and can be installed by a home owner. VCT is durable and lasts forever. Just look at an old schoolhouse or grocery store. Some carpets are very inexpensive choices and deals are everywhere. Remnats can save even more.

    I agree with Mark. Carpet or vinyl flooring is generally cheaper than a wood finish. If you like wood, laminate is much cheaper than solid or engineered hardwood.
