Is exterior painting realistic as a DIY job, or is it one of those things better left to pros?

Interior walls are a reasonable DIY if you're patient with prep and cutting in. Exterior painting is trickier — ladders, prep, weather, and durability make pros worth it, and a bad exterior job fails fast. If it's more than one story or has lots of trim, get quotes. The prep is 80% of a lasting result either way.
