Is it worth paying a pro to install flooring?

Asked June 16, 2026 by a contractor in Flooring (Handyman Mod)

Considering laminate or LVP. Can most people install it themselves, or does hiring a pro pay off?

Click-together LVP/laminate is very DIY-friendly on a flat subfloor. Hardwood, tile, and anything needing subfloor prep, transitions, or lots of cuts is where pros earn their fee and the result lasts. Factor in tool rental and your time — for a large area, a quote often isn't much more than doing it yourself once you add it all up.
