How do I reseal my driveway?

Asked May 16, 2026 by a contractor in Concrete (Handyman Mod)

Asphalt driveway is fading and cracking. How do I clean and reseal it, and how often should this be done?

For asphalt: clean it, fill cracks with crack filler, let it cure, then apply sealer with a squeegee/brush on a dry day above ~50°F. Two thin coats beat one thick one. Reseal every 2–3 years. Concrete driveways use a different penetrating sealer. It's DIY-able for a weekend, but a pro will get a more even finish and handle bigger cracks.
