    A toilet that keeps running is usually the flapper (worn/warped) or the fill valve. Take the tank lid off and watch: if water trickles into the bowl, replace the flapper; if it keeps filling, adjust or replace the fill valve and check the float height. Both are cheap parts and a 15–20 minute fix. If the tank cracks or the shutoff leaks, call a plumber.
