Drywall repair — DIY or call a handyman?

Asked May 25, 2026 by a contractor in Drywall and Plastering (Handyman Mod)

How hard is it to patch drywall and get a seamless finish? Or should I just hire it out?

One small hole is very DIY — patch kit, compound, sand, paint. Where people struggle is texture matching, feathering large seams, and ceilings. If you've got several spots or want it invisible, a handyman does it faster and cleaner. It's a low-cost job to hire out and a good 'first job' to test a handyman.
