Project Description
Build and install removable soundproof fireplace insert Description: I’m looking for a handyman to build and install a removable sound-blocking insert for my fireplace. The fireplace is not in use — I’m trying to reduce noise coming through the opening from a neighboring unit. What I need help with: • Fireplace opening 36.5 inches wide 27.5 inches high • Purchase materials (I will reimburse), including: • MDF or plywood backing • Mineral wool insulation (Rockwool or similar) • Weatherstripping for a tight seal around the edges • Build a removable panel with insulation inside • Wrap the front with fabric (I will provide the fabric) • Install the panel so it fits snugly but can be removed if needed Goals: • Reduce sound coming through the chimney/fireplace • Clean, simple appearance • Renter-friendly (no permanent changes) This should be a straightforward project for someone comfortable with basic carpentry or building acoustic panels. I’m located in Berkeley and flexible on timing.
