I purchased a slider/dimmer for an LED light in my dining room, but the wiring inside the outlet does not appear to be correct and likely done by someone as equally inexperienced as am I. The black wire was just laying in a crimped loop, which explains the occasional crackling sound the outlet would sometimes generate. Probably a quick job for someone who knows what they are doing, which is clearly not me.
