Cables, Networks and Telephones

Project Description
FYI: the "completion time frame" drop down does not have a "need it done now or next week" option. My roommate, best friend, (and the homeowner) is really wanting this work done ASAP. We have three non-working phone outlets. There are FOUR phone outlets in the condo: 1. Working wall jack next to his computer in the Master Bedroom. That wall jack has two outlets: one connected to his landline phone (VOIP) and the other jack connected to his router/computer modem. That jack is a *new* jack installed by AT&T when we moved into the condo last year. The d-marc for that jack is in the Master Bedroom Closet and has a single wire running direct (through the shared wall) to the jack with two outlets. The remaining phone jacks in the condo are NON-FUNCTIONAL at this time: 2. Living room - has TWO telephone wires in it (which is what makes me think it is a "daisy chain" 3. Secondary bedroom (my bedroom) - has ONE telephone wire in it (end point of a chain?) 4. Master Bedroom - a hot mess. Has TWO telephone wires in it (both horribly short) that are "spliced (?)" together with these little square plastic (thingies). There are only two wires (not color coded) extending out past the level of the wall. I have no idea which wires would go to which connector on a wall jack since they are not color coded. The previous owner was an idiot in my humble opinion. I know all this is confusing but I can send photos. I *believe* that the phone jacks are "daisy chained" but I'm not sure of the exact order of the daisy chain. There *was* a non-working security system in place when we moved into the condo last year. AT&T installed a new wire (from the closet) through the wall to where my roommate wanted his computer and bedroom phone to be located. (see above Jack #1) I did (am doing) quite a bit of DIY renovations on the condo. One of those "DIY projects" was to get rid of that non-working security system. The previous owner had actually removed a portion of it even before we moved in; there was not even a keypad anywhere for the system. What was left was a bunch of parts that didn't do anything: alarm speaker in the laundry room, sensors on windows, motion sensor in the living room, and the remnants of the keypad dangling inside of a wall in the front hallway - just a circuit board and wires. Ugh. ONE of those parts was a square metal box with a lot of wires and a small dead battery in the closet in the Master bedroom. Obviously this box was the "main point" where all the wires from the various components (sensors, etc) of the non-working security system came to. So.. I removed that box, cuts the wires leading to it and pushed the remaining wires up into the ceiling and covered it with drywall compound and painted that patch over. I am 99% sure that is where the "break / cut" is that leads to other (now non-functional) wall jacks is located. We "discovered" the problem when my roommate decided he wanted a phone extension in the living room (Wall Jack #2). We then tested the jack in my room and it too did not work. We also tested (Wall Jack #3), my bedroom, and it does not work. Wall Jack #4 we were unable to test. (more on that later) So... to summarize: We need: 1. Someone to locate the break if possible and splice the wires together. I can show you where the "cut wires" are located. There is an access panel to the attic only about 3 feet from where the suspected "cut wire" is located. IF the splice doesn't fix the problem we need a new wire run to the jack in the living room (Jack #2) or wherever the "daisy chain starts" There are two outlets that look like they are part of the "middle" of the chain. The living room and the Master Bedroom. My bedroom is clearly the end of the chain. Make sense? LOL Call me and I can send photos.
