We have an exhaust PVC vent pipe that protrudes from the foundation of the house exterior. The pipe originates from the the laundry dryer / room. The PVC pipe is broken off the exterior of house, therefore leaving the hole exposed to insects, pests, and water. We have struggled with this pipe from the initial time it was installed by the home builder. I can send photos of the issue. Ventilation companies says this problem is beyond their scope of work.
